A study by the research group Syncapse has determined the average annualized value of an individual fan on Facebook to be $136.38. That&#8217;s a pretty interesting stat, considering the &#8220;age of selling&#8221; has long past. With social media, you&#8217;re competing in the &#8220;Age of recommendations&#8221; instead, and business must understand the subtle difference between the two.</p>
<p>Your customers are your best salesforce. When people &#8220;like&#8221; your page, they are indicating to the social media world their acceptance and endorsement of your product and/or service. When YOU tell people you&#8217;re great (sales), it&#8217;s hard to get people to listen and act. <li>36% are more likely to try a brand when &#8220;liked&#8221; by anyone on their friends list.</li>
</ul>
<p>Obviously, &#8220;liking&#8221; is tremendously important. If you want to establish a social proof for your business, which is so necessary in today&#8217;s business environment, you must concentrate on increasing the engagement of your Facebook fan page, which in time should translate into significant &#8220;likes&#8221; for your brand.</p>

<p>We&#8217;ve talked about this many times: it would be a big mistake to ignore the impact Facebook and social media in general can have on your business and brand. The traditional multi-page websites are slowly giving way to one-page mobile optimized web pages containing the most important element of internet marketing: the <a title="Email marketing and lead capture software" href="http://somo.aweber.com" target="_blank">lead capture</a>. <p>The &#8220;like&#8221; button can be installed on any content on your page that you want people to share such as news articles, blog posts, photos, videos, etc. But how do you optimize the Facebook &#8220;like&#8221; and what are the best practices for implementing &#8220;like&#8221; ideas? You need to consider 5 major points:</p>
<ol>
<li>Add Open Graph tags, allowing you to customize images, titles, and  descriptions. Without these tags, the pages on your website may lack  important context when they appear on Facebook news feeds and timelines  of others.</li>
<li>You need to position your &#8220;like&#8221; button for maximum effect, ideally  above the fold, adjacent to any standalone graphical elements, at the  end or beginning of your article, graphic, or video, left-justified  directly under the object, or on its own, separated from any other icons  appearing on the page.</li>
<li>Add copy near the &#8220;like&#8221; button to enable and encourage commenting on  your page. Facebook says &#8220;likes&#8221; with comments get three times more  distribution and four times more engagement. Komments are King!</li>
<li>Show faces on your page, which are simply people who already have liked  the page. Another Facebook stat: People are twice as likely to click on a  Like button when they see a friend’s face next to it, and six times as  likely when more than one friend has already liked it.</li>
<li>Test, test, and test again. View your Facebook Insights page and keep  optimizing until you are getting the results you&#8217;re looking for.</li>

<p>While many are complaining about the new never-ending changes Facebook has come up with regarding Fan Pages, <a title="The powerful combination of social media and mobile marketing" href="http://www.somotechnologies.com" target="_blank">savvy social media marketers</a> are actually embracing the new design with tremendously useful features. With that in mind, here&#8217;s what you MUST know regarding the new Facebook Fan Page timeline design:</p>
<ul>
<li>Because the new pages are landscape in dimension, you can now basically  embed your current website into the page with the use of tabs. <a title="Facebook Fan page tab creation software" href="http://www.socialoutbreak.com/tsunamibiz" target="_blank">Subscribe to a tab creation service</a>,  create the tab, embed whatever page you want to highlight and viola:  your fanpage is now your second website! (or the only online presence  you&#8217;ll really need if you make clever use of <a title="email marketing and lead capture squeeze pages" href="http://somo.aweber.com" target="_blank">lead capture squeeze pages</a>).</li>
<li>Your cover image can set the tone for the entire page. The new timeline  design allows for ideally an 850 x 315 graphic that can really bring  your facebook fan page to life! However, Facebook is imposing guidelines  to create content engagement rather than selfish self-promotion, so you  can&#8217;t use any &#8220;call to action&#8221; like &#8220;sign up for updates&#8221; or &#8220;like this  page&#8221; and such. In addition, you can&#8217;t include any contact info, URLs,  or reference any features on your Fanpage with this graphic. In other  words, your content is king. (and you&#8217;ve heard that before many times  before &#8211; Facebook is listening).</li>
<li>Remember those tabs you created that were listed on the left of the page where no one saw them and they never stood out? Well, now the new Timeline design creates horizontal tabs, each associated with a customized image which can function like&#8230; well&#8230; your current website! Navigation for your new fanpage has been made SO MUCH easier it&#8217;s not even close!</li>
<li>Your sidebar graphic is now a 180 x 180 pixel square. Because that&#8217;s so  small, it&#8217;s probably not a good idea to include a call-to-action on this  graphic either, so it&#8217;s best to use just your logo for this. Once  again, it&#8217;s all about promoting your page with engaging content.</li>
<li>The &#8220;About&#8221; section of your page is now more prominently displayed. This  is great because now that information you enter about your fanpage or  company really means something. Before, you had to search hard for that  info (as well as your website). Marketers who target this element of the  new fan page timeline will <a href="http://www.tsunamibiz.com" target="_blank">see tremendous interest in what their  company does</a> by the way the timeline now displays this information.</li>
<li>You now have the capability to create Milestone&#8217;s on your page and  assign a graphic to that event. This is huge as it&#8217;s perhaps the most  effective way to generate comments and likes to your page. The picture  for the milestone can be up to 843 X 403 pixels, making it very  noticeable on the site in a way that couldn&#8217;t be done with the previous  fan page design.</li>

In other words, now when people &#8220;like&#8221; your page, you will  have really earned it!</li>

<p>Could it be the mobile content where subscribers are sent text reminders of showtimes when they text &#8220;BEER&#8221; to 69302 so they never miss a show? Or perhaps their use of lead capture and forms? Or maybe its providing the opportunity to be automatically entered into Sweepstakes and giveaways? Or the fact that people can <a title="Order a Beer of the Month Club Subscription" href="http://www.tkqlhce.com/click-1382813-5528954" target="_blank">order a &#8220;Beer of the Month&#8221; subscription</a> which monetizes the fanpage? Or maybe people just like to watch the show either on Facebook or at the <a title="I Love Beer Show official website" href="http://www.ilovebeershow.com" target="_blank">customized website the Beer Show created</a> just for that purpose?</p>
<p>You get the point. The &#8220;People are talking about&#8221; metric provides you with some valuable data and insights on how well your campaigns are engaging your prospects.
